Our Skating Programs

Learn about the programs offered by Preston FSC and our coaching partners at Champions Training Center.

Programs at Preston FSC

Preston Figure Skating Club offers skating programs from October through April, including Learn to Skate, STARSkate (winter session), and Powerskate (winter session).

We also partner with Champions Training Center, who run all spring, summer, and fall skating programs, as well as year‑round STARSkate, Competitive training, and private Powerskate lessons.

This page explains each program and where to register depending on the season.

Learn to Skate

Our Learn to Skate program teaches foundational skating skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. We offer several levels to support skaters of all ages and abilities

Parent & Tot (Age 2+)

A beginner class that allows one parent or guardian on the ice with their child. Perfect for very young skaters who need hands‑on support and confidence building.

Buddies on Blades (Age 3-4)

An assisted beginner class focused on comfort, balance, and getting familiar with the ice. Ideal for skaters who are brand new or need extra support.

Pre-CanSkate & CanSkate (Age 5-10)

Our main Learn to Skate pathway for children. These programs follow the Skate Canada curriculum and teach balance, movement, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, and early edge skills.

Teen CanSkate (Age 11-17)

A dedicated CanSkate class designed specifically for teen beginners or teens returning to skating. This program is separate from our youth CanSkate groups.

Advanced Rec. Figure Skating

For skaters who have completed CanSkate and are preparing to transition into STARSkate.

Season: October–April (Preston FSC) Registration: Preston Figure Skating Club

Season: April-September (CTC) Registration: Champions Training Centre

STARSkate

STARSkate is the next step after CanSkate, offering figure skating development in jumps, spins, edges, turns, and artistry. Skaters work through Skate Canada’s STAR levels with certified coaches.

Skill Assessment Required

All new skaters registering with the club for STARSkate must provide their current Skate Canada number or complete a skill assessment before registration. This ensures each skater is placed in the correct STAR level and training group.

STAR 1–5 (Winter Session)

Our Preston FSC STARSkate program runs from October to April and includes group instruction, development sessions, and opportunities for testing and performance.

STAR 6+ & Competitive (Year‑Round)

Advanced STARSkate and Competitive training is offered through Champions Training Center during spring, summer, and fall, as well as year‑round private coaching. Registration for these programs is completed by email after placement is confirmed.

Season: April-September (CTC) Registration: Champions Training Centre

Powerskate

Powerskate is a high‑energy skating program designed for hockey and ringette players who want to improve speed, agility, power, and control. Skaters learn balance, edges, stopping, acceleration, and advanced agility through the Powerskate method.

Powerskate (Group Lessons)

Our group Powerskate program is open to skaters of all skill levels and registration is online. This program focuses on strong skating fundamentals, edge control, speed, and agility.

Private Hockey Skills Lessons One‑on‑one hockey skills training using the Powerskate method plus additional advanced development. These private lessons require a contact form, and registration is completed by email after inquiry.
