Programs:
The Winter season is 24 weeks in length!
The instruction of
skills portion of the program is from October 10, 2007 - March
1, 2008.
The performance
portion of the program is in March. Skaters practice approximately
twice a week to create the annual ice show. Skaters continue to
develop their skating skills through the performance portion of the
program.
Pre-School Program
This
year the Preston Figure Skating Club is offering a program geared to
children 3 & 4 years of age. This will be a special incentives program
to encourage the skaters to progress quickly.
All lessons are 25
minutes in duration during the week; while 1/2 hour per week on
Saturdays. Ten minutes of each lesson is spent with a Professional
Coach.
CanSkate (Learn to
Skate) Program
The Learn to Skate / Elementary
Program is for skaters to learn the basic functiondamentals of skating.
Recommended for 5 years and older.
Wednesday and Thursday sessions
are 50 minutes in length each week. Saturdays sessions are 60
minutes in length each week. (The cost are the same, as some
Saturdays are missed due to holidays and hockey tournaments!)
10 mins of each session
is spent with a professional coach.
Maximum 12 skaters per
group.
CanFigureSkate (Advanced
Recreational Program)
Pre-requisite Learn to Skate / Elementary
Program Maximum 12 skaters per group
Does your
child want to become a figure skater? This is a transition program
from the CanSkate program to Figure Skating. This two day program
assists the skaters to learn new elements as well as develop strong
working skills. The group session works on specific skills. On
Saturdays 2:10pm session, skaters are utilizing most of the ice,
developing the quality of their control, balance, speed and posture while
achieving their tasks. Professional coach: 10 mins during the group
session; on-going during the 45 minute Saturday session. Pre-Requisite:
Stage 4 badge
Learn to Skate Hockey Skills
Program
This program is open to skaters of all ages.
It is a Learn to Skate program that is geared towards Hockey. In this
program the skaters are required to wear hockey equipment and use a stick.
This is a program designed to teach the skaters how to move efficiently
over the ice surface while wearing hockey equipment. The 50 minutes are
spent with a professional coach, using 1/3 of the ice
surface.
Pre-requisite Skater
should be able to skate the length of the ice surface forward and
backwards.
Please Note: All skaters will be evaluated and put in
appropriate skating level. Therefore, this could cause a change to your
child's package.
Adult Program
This
program is taught in a group format. In the program we have many different
level of skaters, therefore the program is taught with various levels of
difficulty. The coach always works with the group. The Adults are
encouraged to do all the elements, but the Adults themselves must set
restrictions for themselves. The number in the group
varies.
