On A Sad Note

A former skater of PFSC Andrew Freake passed away. Below is an except from the funeral bulletin

Andrew Freake

Andrew's passion was Music. He has referred to his i-pod and guitar as his two best friends. He was a member of many music groups including Handicap Parking and Storybook Heroes. His hobbies included skateboarding, skating, writing songs and playing guitar. Andrew loved the outdoors especially his visits to Newfoundland.

Reflection of being a Preston Team Member
Report by: Rob Schultz - Junior Men's Competitor

Hello everyone. I was asked to make a report tonight on my reflection of being a Preston Team member. I have been a member of the Preston Figure Skating Club for ten years. During those ten years I have met many great people, experienced many new things, traveled to some cool places and enjoyed many unforgettable events. There have been some experiences that were not so enjoyable but luckily the coaches and other skaters have always been there to help me through those times. Some of the friends I have made throughout the years will be friends for life and I am very grateful for that.

I have made a list of my top ten most memorable moments to share with you;

10. Sorry Miss J but there have been some memorable conditioning classes over the last ten years!!!

9. Trying to wake Gord up and drag him out of bed after our last night in Halifax last January. He was cursing Miss Huston the whole time for making our flight home so early.

8. Ice show - what's not to remember about ice show?

7. Landing on my head, then having Jordan landing on my head, blacking out, taking a few days off then spending the next few days skating around in an old hockey helmet so I could be ready for the Challenge.

6. Having a food fight with Charlotte in the judge's room at RIM Park when we were being runners at a Grand River Competition.

5. My first Senior Nationals - what impressive skates I had!!!

4. Winning the Ontario Winter Games in Guelph the first time I

qualified for something beyond Sectionals.

3. Being chosen to represent Canada at a North American Challenge event in Pittsburg Pennsylvania in both singles and pairs.

2. Rooming with Ian at Junior Nationals in Moncton and Brampton. We always have the messy, party, x-box room. I wonder how the door and tv are making out.

#1.  Sask Skate - running with Mr. Vink, the water slides and those great letters we wrote after getting caught visiting the Burlington Team during off  hours.

My best advice to all the skaters whether you are just starting your journey here at Preston or it's coming to an end is to enjoy every moment. The coaches here are great - when they yell it's because they know you can do it. The skaters are really great people so take the time to make some good friends. I know I have and I'm a better person because of it.

Fundraising
