| President's
Greeting |
|
On
behalf of the Preston Figure Skating Club's Board of
Directors I would like to personally welcome you to the
2007-2008 seasons. We have a number of activities
taking place over this coming season and we invite all
members of the club to participate in them.
Skating is an individual sport but here at Preston we
thrive to create a TEAM atmosphere. In order to
create this team atmosphere we rely on all its club
members from the regional group program to the national
team families. We hope that we can count on your
support. Without you none of this is
possible. If you have any questions please do not
hesitate to call our office at 519-653-2252. We
hope that everyone has a fun and successful season and
always remember to SKATE PROUD!!
Sincerely,
Debbie Tudisco
President

| Frequently
Asked Questions |
|
A question box will be located in the club office
or you can e-mail your questions to our Preston Office.
Other people may be wondering the same thing and we
would like to share it with everyone.
What Should
Skaters Wear?
Skaters should wear comfortable clothing.For
recreational level, skaters should wear;
- sweater / jacket
- athletic pants (track pants), not
splash pants or snow pants as they are restrictive and
give some kids a challenge when trying to stand up.
- Helmets and
mitts
Buying
Skates?
When buying skates it is important
to pay attention to the size and the ankle support. Many parents
want to get a couple of years out of their children's
skates so they buy big, with the thought of allowing
them to grow into them. This can
actually hinder the skater's progression. You don't need
to buy new, but you do need support. If the skater
can walk forward (taking about ten steps) without the
ankles wobbling, then they have enough support and worth
the purchase.
Purchasing skates can be a challenge. There
is Re-Run Sports on the corner of King/Bishop in
Cambridge that sells used skates. Also, MacPhails
or Sport Zone in KW , A Skater's Wish in Hamilton, and College Sports
in Brantford, to name a few, have a great selection of
new and used skates.
Private
Lessons?
Private lessons are available for all
levels of skating.
At the recreational level we offer a 10 minute
one-on-one private lesson for $7.50. This lesson is
given during the skater's skating time and taught by a
professional coach. These lessons
can be given on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. These lessons
can assist the skater with their progression. Please
call the office for
details.
